What is Thermoforming?
Thermoforming is a manufacturing process where a plastic sheet is heated to a pliable forming temperature, formed to a specific shape in a mold, and trimmed to create a usable product.
There are 5 steps to the Thermoforming process:
Step 1: We will design your project to fit your product specifications and to fit the outer packaging that you have selected.
Step 2: Once we complete your design we then help you select the correct material for your project. ABS plastic is the most widely used material but there are other materials that you can choose from: fire-rated and high heat materials are an couple. Each materials has benefits from color to function and we will help you choose the perfect material for your packaging needs.
Step 3: Tooling/Mold – During this phase we will create a mold from your design that the plastic will be heated to.
Step 4: Thermoforming – During this step we will form the plastic to the mold by heating the plastic sheet until it reaches a pliable temperature and then shaping it the mold using vacuum pressure. Once it been formed its cooled and removed from mold containing the the final shape.
Step 5: Trimming – During this stage we will trim off any excess material and prepare it for final use.
